Victoria J. Dean’s ‘The Fortified Coastline’ is currently at Rua Red in Tallaght and tomorrow evening, 20th August, at 6.30pm, I’ll be talking about Victoria’s work. ‘The Fortified Coastline’ is a wonderful series of luminescent images of man-made structures around the coastline of Ireland. Some hold back the elements, some invite play, some order behaviour. Dean’s photography shifts the meanings of these things well beyond their social functions, though. They become allegorical of our own confused relationships with freedom and containment. It’s marvellous work — get along to the exhibition if you can. The talk is free and details are here.
