Sven Augustijnen’s The Metronome Bursts of Automatic Fire Seep through the Dawn Mist like Muffled Drums and We Know it for What It Is is currently on show at Dublin City Gallery the Hugh Lane until 22 January. The book accompanying the exhibition has just been published and it includes some wonderful installations shots of the layout of the magazines (Time and Life) which make up this powerful work. There’s an essay on Augustijnen’s work by Mihnea Mircan and an essay by me, ‘Action Man’s Rifle and the Troubles’, reflecting on the Northern Irish context which runs through the alternative history presented by the exhibition.
The book is available via the Hugh Lane bookshop.
